In a terminal (sorry, don't know another way to do it)
dpkg -l hplip
If it's installed, you should see something like

ii hplip

If you see

un hplip it means it's not installed

In that case

sudo apt-get install hplip

should install what's needed.

There is a graphic package manager, but again, I don't know how to use it,
so can't be of much help there.
