In some cases, if you open a file created on Windows in a Linux machine,
you'll see a bunch of ^M scattered throughout the file. This is because
of a difference in the way each handles carriage returns. I haven't run
into this in awhile, not sure if it's because of changes in how Windows
does textfiles now. A pdf file shouldn't be affected, and, depending upon
how it was created, you probably wouldn't see anything odd in an html file
either. If a .txt file looks normal on both, I wouldn't worry about it.
