Re: [LINUX_Newbies] ignore flash

Fewer sites are using Flash. Most tablets and smartphones do not even support Flash. Most have moved onto h.264 or some other video standard and html5 does not need it because it has built in multimedia support with things like Canvas and javascript. Even Adobe admits the benefits of html5 in comparison to Flash.

That being said, some sites may still use it. There are open source alternatives to flash in the repositories. http://www.transitionblog.com/4-most-amazing-alternatives-to-adobe-flash-player/

Even with Flash installed you may bet messages to upgrade Flash or the site won't work. Sometimes Adobe has bundled things with Flash, so you have to read their EULA carefully and not select the defaults in Windows. This is not a problem in Linux, but that does not stop the prompts for upgrades because there is money to be made through advertising and click through links.

Usually Firefox uses Google, DuckDuckGo, StartPage, or you could make your own with links/tabs to where you want to visit every day. I use tabs to local weather, news, set my clock, etc.
