Re: [LINUX_Newbies] k3b and xubuntu

There is not a lot on information here to go on. I don't know which version of Xubuntu or anything about your computer. The only thing that I can go on is RAM. It may be the case it that Xubuntu does not need KDE libraries, and K3b does need them. So you are loading more into your computer when you use a KDE application in Xubuntu. If RAM is in short supply then it could cause problems. Also burning uses lots of memory.

I am not sure what version of siduction that you used. It comes in three flavours, KDE, LXDE and XFCE. If it was KDE then K3b would not have to load extra libraries into memory. If it was LXDE then there is less overhead to begin with. If it was XFCE then I do not know except it could have to do with versions and compatibility.

Crashes happen for many reason. Memory is a big one. Sometimes the problem is just temporary too and an update will cure the problem.

You can still burn an ISO from XFCE, using Xfburn Just click on the ISO and you should have that option. Or just got to Applications->Accessories->Xfburn.
Xfburn uses the same libraries and should work more efficiently in XFCE. If you want more power without going too far from XFCE then install Brasero, GNOME's disk burner.
