You can fetch dBan; burn a CD; boot and run it to completely wipe the
HD..
/or/ You can boot a Linux live CD/DVD and use the 'dd' command to
completely fill the HD with zero's:

I don't think he is talking about anything that severe.  He just wants to make certain the entire disk is available for a new Linux install, not that the disk has been security wiped.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd_ bs=1M

I've read that a complete wipe from M$ to Linux is needed because of
hidden files a normal delete or re-partition wont touch.. ?? ..

It has nothing to do with whether or not an M$ file is hidden or not.  From a technical standpoint, the data for the file is still there.  However, that does not mean that either Windows or Linux would even *SEE* that data.  They both use file systems that depend on indexes to point to a file.  If the index is wiped, installing a new OS will not be able to see any files from the old OS using any normal means.  It would require forensic software which is not what we are talking about anyway.  In short, no files from Windows will interfere with installation of Linux on a properly prepared disk.

Securely erasing a disk is a different topic and should be discussed as such when someone has that need.  An example would be, "I have a computer that I had financial data on and now I want to give it to a pre-school.  What should I do to make certain all my data is gone."
