Recent Virtualbox (I use 4.0.2) can boot 64bit guest just fine, as long as the host have hardware virtualization support (Intel-VT/AMD-V) in CPU and enabled in BIOS.

And you should also have VT-x/AMD-V virtualization enabled in the virtual machine's settings - and then it's indeed booted fine. Great news. Thanks.
