does not embrace change nor new users. They want to keep things the way they
always were and even turn back the clock. They do not like it that Ubuntu
has taken their work and made it accessible to others. That does not make
Debian a great distribution. It just means that Debian is what it is and it
isn't going to change anytime soon because of its ideology and its user
base. If someone insists on using Debian then they should be encouraged to
do so, but it isn't what I would recommend because I know the community well
and know that they are on a crusade and to them all outsiders are regarded
as infidels. If you can accept the "our way or the highway" approach then
you will probably fit right in.
When someone writes that they are having problems configuring Debian then I
smile inwardly because it is not made to work out of the box, nor to work
like Ubuntu with advanced features. It is for advanced users who like a
basic setup. It will likely never work as well because of their insistence
that anything proprietary is bad and if you ask for help doing something
that they regard as verboten the you will get a lecture at best and a tongue
lashing at worst.
