Hi,
Many people have had a problem with X, leaving them with broken systems,
it is caused by having propitiatory drivers on the machine such as the
nvidia and ati graphics drivers. It leaves you with a flashing login
prompt and intermittent keyboard reading which prevents you from loging on.
