HI Joan,

You wrote:

OK, a netbook, well I have an old Dell that only Puppy Linux can see the built-in wi-fi on. ...

I don't know yet what issues I'll have once I have
a successful download.

... So when I need to use another Distro I usually have to use an USB wi-fi instead. ...

Do you mean like what Verizon offered before
they came out with the Jetpack that converts the
signal from Verizon and rebroadcasts it to the
wifi in the computer? That works quite well with
WindowsXP and with my MacBook Pro.

... Sometimes you have to connect via wired LAN ...

I don't have a LAN connection. If a wired LAN is
accessing the internet via a wired connection, it
could be more effective than what I have. Folks
at Verizon said that the best download results
require a wired connection. I really doubt that
my dialup would help LOL.

... Of course, I have more of a challenge since the internal SSD hard drive is bad and I have to boot off an external DVD ROM or boot off an USB flash drive.

Interesting. I thought my netbook was pretty
much a mess.
