Being just were you are now a couple years ago, newbie novice, my first
impressions were it seems extra extra technical compared with others. I
found out how simple things are after learning some of the jargon, names
of things. What is so very easy in the case of installing Linux itself
as opposed to a "dual boot" (which is installing Linux aside another
system as Windows XP, Vista, Win7 etc) I found is that most if not all
distros (Mint, Ubuntu, Debian etc) have that wipe-the-entire-disk built
in option when starting things. Automatic and takes moments, and then
begins the install. Really simple.

Just two things I would mention are that you can download any distro you
want and then you can either burn it to a DVD/CD disc or transfer it to
a USB Drive (not media stick - drive, same price). There are several
softwares that do this automatically for you and two I use are....

FOR DVD/CD ...
InfraRecorder
infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/
InfraRecorder is a free CD/DVD burning solution for Microsoft Windows.
It offers a wide range of powerful features.

FOR USB DRIVE... (FREE)
USB Universal installer

OR....
Unetbootin
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

I always say if you are operating a Windows PC or Apple/Mac - you
already know how to use Linux ! Just as easy.

I have several Dell Pc`s that had XP and also one with custom Intel, that I use in a home business. I also a Macs with Snow Leopard and Leopard. These are keepers. I intend to trash all the XP OS`s. I intend to load Ubuntu into one of these computers, and take myself into a learning curve. I search for the how? How can I load Ubuntu into a Dell that I have erased hard drive? I`m open to mentoring.
