Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Mint (Mate) Version 17

Swap can be anywhere but I would not choose sda1 personally. I would put swap at the end of the partition chain. I would put root first home second and swap last. If you need to modify later it is easier that way.

Hi Roy,

You wrote:

Doing it yourself means making the decisions yourself: partitions, locations, size, formatting, format type, swap disk space, etc. as opposed to having those decisions made for you.

I noticed, in the link suggested by Joan, an example
of a partition scheme diagrammed:

sda
    sda1            4013    swap
    sda2          10742    ext4
    sda4        290486    Extended
        sda5    290485    ext4

Is sda1 a good location for swap? My instances of
the Mint 17 installation doing "its own thing" seem
to put it after sda1 (but as a logical partition, sda5
of sda2 extended partition).
