Re: [LINUX_Newbies] ZORIN LINUX 8.1

Joan....

did some more tinkering today and got it to install. (i think)

just skipped the qmake and ran the make in terminal...it all went in and program runs, but it didn't set up the program icon and start menu entry.

progress !

am not sure what you are hinting at in your last sentence.

QSSTV was unknown to me, so I did a Google...I saw it's based on Qt like KDE. Sometimes KDE applications don't show up on Gnome or LXDE. I also saw mentioned it was offered in the Ubuntu package search. However, I generally prefer Synaptic to install my software, since talk of "make" takes me back to school and Slackware, which I never quite grasped since I had too little time with it. Perhaps it reminds me of a foreign language where some words are male or female...some applications had to be installed with make, while others were binary blobs...both concepts are confusing to me.
Do you think adding the KDE meta-package, or adding a new user for KDE like PcLinuxOS suggested I do would help?

Just Another Newbie (JAN) here with a question.

In the group looking for users of Zorin Linux.  Just put it in, and everything went quite easily.  Even networking with xp/win7 worked right out of the box.

But of course their are problems.  Trying to get QSSTV installed.  Followed all instructions from the QSSTV web page, but the "qmake" command does nothing but return to prompt in terminal window.

Anyone got Zorin out there ?
