I hate saying "Google" but "Google".
I've never run into that error myself from dpkg before. I don't use synaptic or any of those things, I do it all via apt-get (so same difference, really) they are just spitting out dpkg errors.
The reason I say "Google" is that a search for that particular error message:
"dpkg: warning: files list file for package missing; assuming package has no files currently installed"
returns a whole host of possible problems, from a corrupted file to a failing hard drive. Suggestions range from "apt-get update" and "apt-get -f install" all the way to Purge and Re-Install each failing package :/
I'd be interested in knowing if you ever find the root cause here, wish I could provide real help.
