Debian is not newbie friendly, so I am not sure if that is the best option, unless you have experience with it. It may not detect all of your hardware properly and you may have to add to the kernel to get that detection working or add drivers manually. Debian is a great distro, but it is for experienced users. Also you may find the community a bit prickly. They can take offense quickly and do not tolerate "dumb" questions well.
