Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Linux Backup

 

Thanks to all for the help.  

I copied over the /home directory complete with all the hidden files.  A couple of minor issues - Numbers Lock defaulted to OFF and the printer wasn't there.  These were quickly resolved and, at the moment, all is well.

Not really. /home/your-wife's-login should have everything unless ou're using
thelocal mail spool, in which case there might possibly be a
/var/spool/mail/your-wife's-login. If you're running a local IMAP _server_ on
the old box there may be mail data in its spool too.

But really, everything should be in /home.

Keep the old box live until her transition is complete.
