Well, if the BIOS allows you to see and mount the hard drive, and read files in your Home directory you can copy files off to USB, if you need to. I think the smartmontools might be built into the DiskTool that Zorin has from its Ubuntu Gnome legacy, although I think the gear I see in some partitioning tools might give the same Smart info regarding bad sectors, etc. Then, I just try installing another Linux Distro to it. I use Firefox Add-On tools like Xmarks to store my bookmarks online, but there's probably other ways to save that History, too.

i succeeded in booting a puppy live cd
but i did not succeed to use or install smartmontools to check the hard
drive sata0

what shall i do?
