When you insert an Ubuntu CD into the drive inside Windows it loads due to
WUBI, the Windows Ubuntu Installer, which allows you to install Ubuntu
inside Windows. It installs on the C drive and uninstalls in the Control
Panel like any Windows programme. It creates an image in C:/ubuntu that is
loaded as a drive when you re-boot.
Use caution when installing this way. It does not need Windows to run, but
is subject to any Windows problems such as fragmentation and crashes which
can damage the file structure. Ubuntu installed works as fast as regular
Ubuntu, but it cannot hibernate.
See: https://help.
and http://en.wikipedia
WUBI does not require any knowledge of partitioning and is a good way to get
a taste for Ubuntu without risking losing Windows.
I am not sure why you could not get the downloaded version to work. I have
downloaded Ubuntu dozens of times without a single problem. You need to burn
the downloaded ISO using a burning programme but first you need to open it
in the burner. This uncompresses the files. Follow the instructions here:
https://help.
