I've read you do it like this:

$ sudo ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/modem
then check it with the command:
$ ls -lt /dev/modem
and you should see something like:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2007-12-12 12:27 /dev/modem -> /dev/ttyS0

But that is just something I read. I have no idea if that is accurate or not.

Lol! Especially trying to read all of that from windows with internet
explorer on dialup...
