Yeah, that's my experience.
I travel a lot, too, Middle East, Far East, Africa, all over the place,
and I connect with wifi (or my work-issued satphone up-link) almost
seamlessly, even in Third World locales where one might expect
difficulty connecting.
I haven't used a dial-up modem in many years.
