I'm not going to argue too much semantics here, y'all are doing a good
enough job of that yourselves, but I'm seeing a fair bit of not
necessarily correct definition here... for example an "ethernet card"
IS a NIC. A NIC (the term stands for Network Interface Card) is
simply a network device. And since you can add in stand-alone
Ethernet devices as you can stand-alone wireless, they both fall into
the same category. The argument can be made that an onboard ethernet
device is not a "peripheral" but in reality, an onboard ethernet
device is no different than a PCI card, only they've pulled the
silicon off the separate PCI board and mated it directly to the
planar.
But you'll find that the guts of an onboard NIC are exactly the same
as the ones that come on separete PCI board versions.

Anything that's not directly attached to the planar is a peripheral.
USB devices, PCI cards, etc. In End User land, this generally means
printers, scanners, monitors, etc, but it can also mean PCI/PCI-e
devices plugged in. (Think external RAID controller, etc)

There's not a ton of moderation, but I'd suggest y'all stop the

But you just did answer the "garbage trolling flame war". The correct
response would be to respond only to the technical facts or not at
all.
