Fiddlesticks!
Recovering data from LVM filesystems is entirely possible.
A while ago I took an LVM disk out of one box, thinking I could just put
it into another because there was only one physical drive, it shouldn't
upset the LVM. Wrong! it wouldn't boot. You'll need to boot into Linux
rescue mode from your install CD, and after that, well I only did it
once so I don't remember. Later I reinstalled and disabled the automatic
partitioning and didn't allow LVM partitioning.
There also should be a graphical thingy in system tools. It can add LVM
volumes, but from memory you'll lose your data if you don't relabel the
drive first. I'm hazy here, and having a look at the documentation (if
there is any) on the volume management tool might give you what you
need.
Otherwise-
I'd suggest that you start here, as this site explains the concepts and
terms used in LVM. It also gives a lot of info on LVM management:

You might not find the exact answer to your question on how to add your
old LVM disk to your existing logical group at this particular site, but
you will have a good handle on what it is your trying to do. From there
a bit of searching and you should have it tackled.
Clay.
