[LINUX_Newbies] Setting Up Local Server using http://localhost

I posted this via email, but it didn't go through, so I'll try again directly on the Yahoo web page.

I have a need to run TNG - The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding on my Kubuntu 9.10 local computer, using it as if I were on a regular remote website. I want to learn the system first before I migrate it to an actual website. Anyway, I was told I could use http://localhost/ on my web browser (Mozilla Firefox). I have MySQL, PHP and Apache all resident on my system and when I browse to http://localhost/ I get the message "It works!" but that there have been no contents set up yet.

Anyway, the instructions say to place my zipped files into the root web server folder in order to get this software installed and up and running. I notice that the path: /var/www/index.html is the file which brings up the message on the browser, as follows:

It works!
This is the default web page for this server.
The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.

So, can someone tell me exactly where to place the TNG zipped file contents in an effort to get the software to run on my local server?

Thanks very much!
