If you installed a Linux 32-bit Distro, why would you select a file with a 64-bit in its name? Or were confused with the Linux that has both 686 and 64 in its name?

Already in step one, typing
tar -xvzf Downloads/JRE-7u55-Linux-x64.tar.gz
I get tar -xvzf : command not found
I think, as you mentioned before, the 64 bit may be the problem.
That machine I am testing Linux on is an old PC.
Maybe this is not going to work?
