Re: [LINUX_Newbies] OTHER POSTING PROBLEMS

Many people use yahoo mail and it forces user to top post ... is that another "That's your problem", and people who use yahoo mail must leave and start another list?

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] OTHER POSTING PROBLEMS

RESPONDER: SEE MY BOTTOM POST COMMENT BELOW--

Seems to me that you just didn't get it. (talking about Justin's

Here it is again.

The vast majority of people who offer their help for free ask you to
help them by bottom posting, or where appropriate, adding comments in
line.

Almost all of these people aren't just helping here on the newbies list,
they also help on many other lists as well. Some receive over three
hundred messages a day. The idea of trimming and keeping relevant
comments goes a long way in refreshing memories.

On the subject of your computer not having even the most basic editing
facilities. That's your problem, and not for you to foist onto others.
Linux software is mostly free (cost wise). Get something that works.

The bottom line is this; if you can't be bothered making the jobs of
those who volunteer time and a deep knowledge of the subject easier in
helping you, then they may well not be bothered helping you. And if that
becomes the case, serves you right.
All I've heard from you sounds too much like a whine from another who
wants to do as they please without consideration for others. Get over
yourself. A little co-operation goes a long way.

Clay.

MY RESPONSE: Clay (and everyone), there are other issues with posting
that should also be addressed. E-mail is often difficult to format
correctly for lots of people and I still have problems with it myself.
For example, in your response, Clay, you had several extra spaces in
which the text just drops down a line for no apparent reason. This
happens to me often and I found that it is when I make changes to what I
wanted to say by deleting text. At that point, for some strange
reason, even if I remove every character and space and then re-apply a
simple space key, I still get these extra annoying extraneous lines.

Another issue is that lots of e-mail programs will put in those annoying
>>>> characters. It seems to me if you are really trying to address
the readability issues, you ought to cover it all and see if there are
simple guidelines that might help make the whole experience more concise
and not so time-consuming as, those of us on the digest system, scroll
through an almost endless amount of text. NOTE: I JUST MADE SOME
CORRECTIONS BY USING THE DELETE KEY and I'm pretty sure it might come
out with those annoying extra spaces. How do we get rid of them?
