Not so much... while we do argue for and against what some view as
capricious rules, those in general are designed for the technical
community and are generally only applied to technical lists. and not
other things, like, for example, IloveEdward-
(arbitrary and fictional group).
And it's not just linux lists, for what it's worth. Just as speaking
to various different groups requires different tactics.
For example, it's usually considered bad etiquette to curse like a
drunken sailor, as the saying goes, to someone who is upper-management
or some similar executive position, especially when said executive is
higher up the company food chain, while it is far more acceptable to
curse around a shop mechanic who's fixing your car's brakes inbetween
cigar and beer breaks. Just to give to widely diverse groups.
And personally, I prefer the semi-alcoholic mechanics, myself, they
are far more entertaining.
