Google and Linux is a hot button issue for me. I'd really like to see Google try to support Linux a little bit more than they seem to be interested in merely exploiting it. In a way I'm happy they've had so much success with Linux and that we can all use them as a positive example, but in another way I'm annoyed they'll bend over backwards even for MAC but seem to give Linux short shift.
Like where's our native Sketch Up? And no I don't want to hear it works perfectly in Wine. Is it really asking too much for them to run it through a compiler for us too?
I wish I had a solution for you and your 3D Earth issues but I pretty much have written Google off and avoid their junk as a matter of course. If I had to take a wild stab at it though I'd make sure my 3D acceleration was working on the system I was using a 3D app on.
Even then like on this box it doesn't have every 3D extension because of hardware limitations. Which does cause glitches in some parts of some programs. Or maybe that is just as good as Google Earth works on Linux? Wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.
In a terminal enter glxinfo
A bunch of junk should scroll by, Shift+Page Up should scroll you back to the beginning.
pfred1@spot:~$ glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes <--- [what you want to see]
If you don't let us know. I'm sure some here can help you with that as well!
