Let me try to translate then. See below

Are you hooking your laptop to a cable where the other end of the
cable is connected directly to the cable modem?

If yes, was that cable plugged in, both ends, when you installed
Ubuntu?

With the cable between the cable modem and the laptop, there should
be one or more lights that come on the cable modem and possibly
a light on the laptop too. Finally, have you tried a different
cable?

If there is no wire and you are able to connect to the internet
using Windows, please let us know that also. We will work
from there.

Please tell us exactly which Ubuntu you installed. It is possible
to download many different flavors of Ubuntu and some install what
is called Network Manager (or equivalent) and some don't.

This is almost certainly a yes.

Please tell us as much as you can about the laptop. For example,
who made it, what model number is it.

We will get it working if you are willing to be patient with us.

Thanks,
