Hi-Might try to get it up and running and then plugging in the net cable- AM running 10.04 and this works for me- Others have to have the cable connected on boot -up ! Works for me !! Jerry

Can you be a bit more specific?
Are you trying to connect via wifi or ethernet?
If wifi, are you using any encryption?
Did Ubuntu install Network Manager?
Is your cable modem set to provide the IP address via dhcp?
